JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) is a program of USA Archery, one of two national archery organizations, and is run as a club program. The local Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania JOAD Club is the Gold Miners JOAD. There are other Virginia JOAD Clubs: HNS JOAD and Richmond Virginia Archers in Richmond, Chesterfield Golden Arrow Archers, Bull Run Spider Shooters in Fairfax/Centreville, and Queen Anne Archers in Northern Virginia.
The Gold Miners JOAD holds outdoor practices at the Manahoac Bowmen Range located on the Fredericksburg/Rappahannock IWLA Property at 12400 Herndon Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22553.
Dues for the Gold Miners JOAD are $155.00 for the first year, which includes the first year USA Archery membership. After the first year, the dues are $115.00 per year, and each member is expected to individually renew their USA Archery membership. Both USA Archery and JOAD Club membership are required for participation in the JOAD Program. Dues include all coaching, use of the club practice equipment at scheduled practices and limited equipment support.
JOAD includes an achievement Program, in which the members earn awards for specific achievement levels during competition or at achievement shoots held by the club. Achievement requirements and levels are age and equipment specific, so all JOAD members have access and challenge appropriate to their age and accomplishment.
The Gold Miners JOAD Club purpose is to promote the sport of archery; that is, to prepare the members to enter competitive archery at the level appropriate to their skill and experience. To reach their potential, archers need to have their own equipment as loaner equipment cannot be expected to properly fit individual archers. Therefore, members should either have their own archery equipment or be anticipating purchasing equipment. Members are not required to compete; however, the practice sessions are scheduled to support the indoor (winter) and outdoor (summer) competitive seasons. The outdoor season practice is typically from May through August, and the indoor season practice is typically from November through March. Members are encouraged to select tournaments they wish to attend and set goals for their performance and progress.
